Puppy to Adult Dog Socialisation

For years, I only worked with juvenile/adolescent and fully mature large dogs, supporting owners of only the most challenging dog behaviour cases and dogs other walkers/trainers had turned away.

Then in 2019, I had a spate of requests for puppy training & socialisation including; Weimaraners, German Shepherds, Pointers, Spaniels, Working Cockers, Springers, Labradors, Labradoodles and even a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.

I would take the dogs from a few weeks old and work with them and their owners for 3 months and introduce them to a whole host of novel experiences, specialising in puppy to adult dog socialisation, lead work, recall and urban environment habituation.

I begin by using safe adult dogs that I have worked with in my own home, then move outdoors to the garden and then into an enclosed space. Next we move into areas that are home for the dogs and owners and finally we introduce the dogs to traffic, people, push-chairs, wheelchairs, bikes and scooters, shopping trolleys, building sites, horses, cattle, and build on canine and owner confidence.

Since March 2020 we have seen a huge rise in both puppy ownership and UK / Overseas rescue-dog ownership, often with owners who have never owned a dog before but may have grown up with a family pet.

I am delighted to say that my educational career path as a behaviourist and dog trainer has given me a depth and breadth of experiences that are hard to find elsewhere. Having carefully built up Woody-Walks over the last 7 years I have gained an invaluable insight into pack communication and the relationship owners have with not only their own dogs but other peoples as well.

I am now extremely proud to say that the puppies I have trained over the last few years are now ambassadors for adult to puppy socialisation for the new dogs of 2020 and have become regular dogs in the Woody-Walks service offering.
